Vesak Celebration 2026
Vesak commemorates the three most important milestones in Gautama Buddha’s life: his birth, enlightenment, and Parinirvana.
Athula Dassana Dhamma School celebrated Vesak Day on May 2, 2026. More than 60 children and their parents participated in and supported the event, which was organised by the Dhamma School Management Committee under the guidance of Venerable W. Kassapa Thero, the Head of Athula Dassana Buddhist Vihara in Heathrow.
The religious ceremony began in the morning with the Buddha Puja and administering the Eight Precepts (Ata Sil) to children and adults.
In addition to the Precepts, several other activities were organised for the children throughout the day. They created colourful Vesak lanterns, made Vesak greeting cards, and participated in various other Vesak-related activities.
The sessions conducted with the children by Ajan Dhaniyo and Ven Jayadhammo were both memorable and beneficial, providing valuable insights from the sermon and discussion that the children greatly appreciated. We also enjoyed the fantastic weather after the Dana, during which Ven. Kassapa Thero and Ven Jayadhammo (Amaravati Buddhist Monastery) conducted several In-walking meditations (Sakman Bhavana) outside.
To recognise and appreciate the children’s efforts in making Vesak lanterns, prizes were given to every child who created one.
We want to express our gratitude to all the parents who supported us in making the event a success.
