Beginner’s class
Our beginner’s class teachers use a variety of teaching styles and techniques during lessons, including whole class, ability groups, mixed ability groups, and paired working.
Children are taught Buddhism and Sinhala Language, and the level of work is tailored to individual ability. A broad and balanced curriculum is planned and taught in a happy and stimulating environment. We make every effort to allocate a child to a class based on their knowledge and ability.

End of year expectation:
- Children to have gained the ability to identify, and pronounce Sinhala language letters and form very simple two-letter words
- Children can sing and remember a few Sinhala songs
- Children can count in Sinhala 1-20
- Children can identify colors in Sinhala
- Children to have a basic understanding of the Sri Lankan culture
- Children to have a basic knowledge of Buddhist life, culture, and festivals
Assessment:
No formal assessments but the teachers will monitor children’s progress throughout the year.
