Level 1 Class

In Level 1, we will introduce the Sinhala language, culture, and Buddhism to our Level 1 children of the Sri Lankan community. Our teachers will use age-appropriate material, such as pictures and videos, to make the lessons interesting and to facilitate the child’s understanding.

• Niweradi Akuru Huruwa Book (Sinhala)

Homework

Homework is usually set up each week based on the lessons learned on the day, and parents could also expect some homework from the previous week’s lessons.

End of year expectation:

• Children to have gained the ability to identify and pronounce Sinhala language letters and form very simple two/three-letter words
• Children can sing and remember a few Sinhala songs/Gathas
• Children can count in Sinhala 1-30
• Children can identify colors in Sinhala
• Children should have a basic understanding of the Sri Lankan culture
• Children to have a basic knowledge of Buddhist life, culture, and festivals

Assessment: Teachers will make assessments throughout the year, followed by an end-of-year evaluation.
